Find Tutorials

Where do I find Tutorials on this website?

Good news: this entire site is in essence a collection of tutorials based on a question and answer type format. As such, we don't have a dedicated tutorial section on the site.

Instead we collect all the tutorial content in our Learning Center. Each Learning Center section is in essence a book. Each book contains chapters of related tutorial articles. If you're simply wanting to browse the list of available tutorials to see what might be of interest you can click on any Learning Center section; each section is a book on a given subject. Each subject is broken into chapters, and each chapter contains articles or pages which contain the tutorial content.

For example, the PowerCADD User section of the Learning Center contains an abundance of articles related to using that product. Each article is a mini-tutorial designed to address a specific question or workflow issue. The same approach holds true for other sections of the Learning Center.

Of course you might have been looking for a specific tutorial on a given subject. For example you may have found this article when searching this website for the keyword tutorials. Searching is likely the fastest way to find what you're looking for but instead of searching for the keyword tutorials try searching for a keyword or words related to the question you're trying to find a tutorial on. That will typically produce a list of related items you can then view.

For example if you were looking for a tutorial on how to Email a PowerCADD drawing as a PDF? file, you could search for Email PDF or Email drawing as PDF. If you don't find a specific tutorial match to your search, try a less specific (and therefore more generic) type of search inquiry: for example searching for PDF would turn up all tutorial articles containing the term PDF.

So, if you're searching this site for the word tutorial you are missing out on a great deal of content. Think of the entire site as a tutorial collection and conduct your search or browsing habits accordingly.

Finding Recent or New Posts

How do I find the most recent, newest, or most recently changed posts on this website?

Finding the most recent posts on this website is only one click away, do this:

  1. Login with your user ID and password
  2. Cick Recent Posts in the Navigation area on the right of the screen
  3. A complete list of all recent posts are displayed
  4. Posts which you have not read have a red * next to their name
  5. Click on a link to read the post

Hints:

  1. Posts which have been edited since you last read them also have a red * next to their name.
  2. If you have logged in, you will see all the premium and guest content.
  3. If you have not logged in, the list of recent posts displays only those items with guest access.

Make Webpage Text Bigger

Question

I find the text size on this website too small to read comfortably. How can I make it easier to read?

Requirements

Any web standard compliant browser and Mac OS? X (same principles described below also apply in Windows)

That's a great question and it's a very easy fix.

All of the text on this site (or any website) can be made larger or smaller using standard features built into web standard compliant sites like this one, and build into web standard compliant web browsers like Safari, FireFOX and others.

To make the text bigger in Safari, do this:

  1. choose View menu > Make Bigger
  2. all text on the site will be larger, including text in the body of pages like this one and all the navigation items.

Notice that the content of the site reflows automatically to accommodate your larger text size. To make the text smaller simply go back to the View menu and choose Make Smaller

Hint:You can also add an icon to the Safari tool bar that let's you enlarge and reduce the size of text by clicking on an icon. To add Text Sizing icons to your Safari tool bar, do this:

  1. choose View menu > Customize Address Bar...
  2. a sheet will drop down from the Safari document window
  3. drag the Text Size icons from the Sheet onto the Safari Address Bar and press Done

Now you can change the text size up or down simply by clicking on the appropriate icon.

If you're using a web browser other than Safari, for example FireFOX, you're are going to be looking for menu items named something like Text Size. Typically those types of menu items appear in a web browsers View menu.

Hint: You can also use key command short cuts to do the same task, and they are often the same in man web browsers. Press Command + to make text bigger. Press Command - to make text smaller

So, you read a few things here that helped you get through a little bump in the technology super highway. It might not have been a huge thing but it sure made your life easier, saved you some time and likely a few bucks too. Being the friendly sort that you are, if we worked just down the street from you, next door or upstairs, chances are you'd offer to buy us a cup of coffee or perhaps a beer to say 'thanks for the help'. Buy us Dinner

The things you've read here have really helped save you and your staff a lot of time and we all know time is money. Gee, the boss is going to be thrilled with you (or maybe you're thrilled 'cos you are the boss!).

Now that we've helped you out and you're saving some money and hopefully having a bit more fun in the process (or you're less stressed out), dinner is what you're thinking is a fair trade. That's great, this seems like a win-win situation for everyone! Let's see how this might work.

What if we managed to save you 5, 10, 30 or even 60 minutes a week. Or perhaps we showed you something or answered a question that you just couldn't figure out that was worth hours or potentially even days of your time hunting and pecking to figure out how to make it work. If your charge out rate is between $60, $90 or possibly even in the range of $120 per hour you can see how the time and $'s can really add up fast!

Maybe we saved you, your company or the company you work for a pile of money because the answer we provided here was passed along to 3 or more staffers who now benefit from that same time/$ saving! Even if it was only 2 minutes per week it would still save you a lot of time and money over the course of a year whether you're an owner/operator, mid size or large firm.

The math can get pretty crazy, pretty quickly but it becomes apparent that saving time is saving money.

Other places have nice meals for the $25 range so there are plenty of choices. If we start to add in a bottle of wine then prices go up from there. If you were particularly thrilled with the level of help, education or support you received and how much money it saved you then we'd be remiss if we didn't point out we're partial to a nice after dinner drink (there is a particularly nice 25 year old single malt scotch that goes for $45/glass which we very much enjoy).

Working with Bookmarks

How do I create and manage bookmarks?

Here are the general rules as they apply to working with bookmarks:

  1. Bookmarks are available to registered visitors only.
  2. Bookmarks are saved with your user name and stored on caddpower.com, not in your browser. This allows you to access your bookmarks from any computer, not just the computer you might use at the office, in the school computer lab, in an internet cafe or other location.
  3. Your bookmarks can contain links to caddpower.com pages or to any page on a different website.

Adding Bookmarks

Quick Link an simple and efficient way to add a bookmark to any caddpower.com web page.

To add a bookmark to any caddpower.com page using Quick Link, do this:

  1. Login with your caddpower.com user ID and password.
  2. A special Bookmarks section appears in the navigation area.
  3. Open the page you want to bookmark and click Quick Link.
  4. The Create Bookmark Page opens. The default name of the page is automatically entered in the Title field.
    • Optional:Delete the default name and enter your own custom name.
  5. Do not change the default address entered automatically in the URL? field.
  6. Press Save; the bookmark is added to your navigation area.

To add a bookmark to a web page on a different website, do this:

  1. Click Quick Link to open the Create Bookmark Page.
  2. Enter a name for the page in the Title field.
  3. Enter the address in the URL field and click Save.
  4. The new bookmark is added to our navigation area.

Hint: It's easy to make a mistake when entering the address of a website. We recommend visiting the website, copying the address from the browsers Address field, then pasting that information into the URL field to avoid any data entry errors. Remember, some website addresses are case sensitive so be careful when manually entering addresses.

Deleting Bookmarks

To delete a bookmark, do this:

  1. click on the Delete Icon next to the name of a bookmark
  2. The bookmark is automatically deleted

Caution:This operation cannot be undone.

Managing Bookmarks

The same basic process for adding bookmarks is applied to managing a bookmark. You may rename the title of a bookmark, change the address (URL?) of a bookmark, or delete the bookmark entirely from your bookmark menu.

To manage existing bookmark, do this:

  1. Click Manage in the Bookmarks navigation area.
  2. Your personal list of bookmarks is presented.
  3. To Edit the name or address of a bookmark click Edit next to the bookmarks name.
    • Enter a new name or address and press Save
  4. To Delete a bookmark click Delete next to the bookmarks name.
